Garudate Partners
Advisory practice

Business Advisory — Kuala Lumpur

Considered counsel
for organisations
that think carefully.

Garudate Partners works alongside founders, family-held firms, and leadership teams at moments when a careful external perspective is more useful than a standard report. Our engagements are written, unhurried, and designed to surface the questions worth sitting with.

180+ Engagements

Our Services

Three distinct engagements,
each suited to a different need.

We do not offer a uniform product. Each of our three services is designed around a particular type of organisational moment — and we take on a limited number of engagements at any one time.

Strategic Reading
Service I

Strategic Reading

A senior advisor reviews the materials you provide — board papers, planning documents, internal memoranda — and returns a considered written response. Private, narrative in form, and intended to surface questions worth discussing further. The process takes around three weeks from materials received to delivery.

Quarterly Counsel
Service II

Quarterly Counsel

A retained arrangement in which the advisor accompanies a leadership team through the rhythms of the working year. Each quarter includes a half-day working session, a written commentary on the period, and an open channel for unscheduled conversations of a strategic nature. Well suited to founders and family-held firms.

Successor Preparation
Service III

Successor Preparation

A six-month engagement supporting an incoming chief executive, managing partner, or general manager. The work blends individual conversations with the successor, joint sessions with the outgoing leader, and structured reflection on the cultural and relational dimensions of the transition. The engagement does not seek to accelerate the handover, but to give it space.

Why Garudate

What distinguishes
our practice.

Written, not presented

Our counsel arrives as a document, not a slide deck. This allows leadership to read at their own pace, return to particular passages, and share selectively within the organisation.

Senior attention throughout

Every engagement is handled by a principal advisor, not delegated to a junior team member after the initial meeting. The same person who agrees the terms carries the work through.

Strict confidentiality

Client names, materials, and the substance of our discussions are never referenced in new business conversations or published case studies. Discretion is not an add-on; it is the foundation of the work.

Limited intake

We accept a small number of new engagements each quarter. This preserves the quality of attention we are able to offer and ensures our advisory capacity is genuinely available to each client.

Regional grounding

Our practice is built on the particular textures of Malaysian and wider Southeast Asian business culture — the governance norms, family ownership structures, and relational dimensions that shape how decisions are actually made.

Unhurried methodology

We do not offer accelerated timelines or condensed formats as a matter of course. Our work is paced to the complexity of the question at hand, not to the convenience of a billing cycle.

Questions

Frequently asked.

How do I know which service is appropriate for my situation?

The simplest way is to write us a short note — a paragraph or two describing the situation you are dealing with or the decision you are approaching. We will read it carefully and respond with a candid view of which engagement format, if any, seems well suited. There is no obligation attached to this initial exchange.

What kinds of organisations do you work with?

Our clients are typically founder-led businesses, family-held companies, small partnerships, and professionally managed organisations at a moment of strategic reflection or transition. We do not have a sector preference, though we have worked extensively in professional services, manufacturing, and private investment across Malaysia and the wider region.

How is confidentiality handled?

We operate under a standing confidentiality obligation that applies to every engagement without the need for a separate NDA, though we will sign one if your counsel requires it. Client identities are not shared, referenced in marketing materials, or used as introductions to third parties.

How are fees structured and when are they payable?

Fees for the Strategic Reading engagement are payable in full upon agreement. The Quarterly Counsel retainer is invoiced at the start of each quarter. The Successor Preparation engagement is structured as two equal instalments — one at commencement and one at the midpoint. All fees are quoted in Malaysian Ringgit and inclusive of all working sessions and correspondence within the scope.

Do you work with organisations outside Kuala Lumpur?

We are based in Kuala Lumpur and a portion of our work takes place in person, particularly in the Quarterly Counsel and Successor Preparation engagements. We do work with clients elsewhere in Malaysia and in the region, and the balance of in-person and remote contact is discussed and agreed at the outset.

How soon can an engagement begin?

Subject to current capacity, we can typically begin a new engagement within two to three weeks of an initial agreement. During periods when our intake is full, we maintain a short waiting list and will give an honest assessment of the likely timeline when you first write to us.

An invitation

Is this a conversation
worth having?

If you have a decision to approach, a transition to prepare for, or a question that has been sitting without a satisfying answer, we would be glad to hear from you. The initial exchange is without obligation.
